ARTICULAR DISPLACEMENT
Here, for a concrete example, my biomechanical vision of an articular “displacement”. Let us take for example a simple articulation having only one axis of mobility in inflection-extension. Composed of two bones fixed between them by an articular capsule reinforced by ligaments, it is driven via two muscles, flexor and a bungee cord. When all is normal, this articulation works on a transverse axis, carrying out movements of more or less repetitive inflection and extension, but always on the same axis, and this, whatever the force employed. Let us imagine that it is articulation P1-P2 of an inch, and that following an accident in the home, one finds oneself with a rupture of the bungee cord. The tendon is repaired, but as from this moment, the involved forces are not any more the same ones. The flexor one takes the step on the bungee cord. The mechanical consequence is not made wait, the second phalange slips behind on the first phalange, by modifying the position of the axis of mobility. The first phalange “moved”. One corrects displacement by a small direct handling, but the correction does not hold a long time. It will take one year to recover a normal force, and to arrive at a rebalancing of the muscular force between the flexor one and the bungee cord. From there, more “displacement”. Let us imagine now that the bungee cord, instead of undergoing a traumatic aggression, undergoes a biochemical aggression, that it is acidified, this acidity will increase the muscular tone of this only muscle; most extremely takes the top and destabilizes the proprioceptive system of the articulation. “Displacement” will occur in an identical way. It is this phenomenon which occurs regularly on all the articulations of the body when there is a acido-basic imbalance, including on the vertebral articulations, and the “cracking” is only the amplified noise of the slip of the articular cartilages under the constraint of the diminished muscles, the p soas at the lumbar level for example.
